We Are Makers

In an era of mass production and algorithmic everything, the most radical thing a heritage brand could do was show its hands — literally. We Are Makers was conceived as a permanent brand pillar built on a single, verifiable truth: that Roots products are still handcrafted in Toronto by real people using real skill. The creative challenge was to make that truth feel as compelling as any campaign, not just as a proof point but as a visual world worth living in.

As Creative Director, I developed the foundational concept and directed the full on-set execution — using practical industrial lighting and documentary-style photography to capture the intimate rituals of the leather factory with the same care and aesthetic rigour applied to any campaign shoot. The factory floor became an editorial environment. The makers became the subjects. The work has continued to anchor Roots' global brand identity in the years since its launch.
